Knitted T-Shirts
Our knitted T-shirts come in two kinds of stripes. The fine stripe is the Breton, the shirt issued to French sailors from 1858 and worn ever since. The block stripe is wider, in even bands that alternate, and gives the shirt more presence than the Breton does.
Our T-shirts are knitted in Scotland from fine-gauge organic cotton. Long staple refers to the length of the cotton fibre: the longer the fibre, the smoother the yarn it spins into, and that gives a surface that stays smooth. The hem and cuffs are knitted with longer ribs so they hold close at the body and the arms. We make ours slightly shorter in the body, which sits well with high-rise trousers.
Knitted T-shirts are for summer, worn on their own or under an unstructured jacket. With a collar and a button instead, the same cotton is in our skipper polos, and the rest of what we knit in Scotland is in knitwear.
