Skipper Polos

A skipper polo is a knitted polo with an open collar, drawn from the sportswear advertisements of the 1940s. The collar spreads open and fastens at the neck with a single mother-of-pearl button and a loop. We make ours in plain colours and in stripes.

Our polos are knitted in Scotland from fine-gauge organic cotton. Long staple refers to the length of the cotton fibre: the longer the fibre, the smoother the yarn it spins into, and that gives a surface that stays smooth. The hem and cuffs are knitted with longer ribs so they hold close at the body and the arms. We make ours slightly shorter in the body, which sits well with high-rise trousers.

During summer a knitted polo takes the place of a shirt, on its own or under a sport coat. The striped knitted T-shirts are knitted from the same cotton, and the rest of what we knit in Scotland is in knitwear.
