Roots in Bespoke Tailoring
With roots in bespoke tailoring, craftsmanship remains at the heart of Besnard. Our aim is to create garments that are worn with pleasure and made to endure, to be passed down through generations. Every piece is made with careful attention to fit, materials, and construction.
We work primarily with artisans who specialise in a single product category, ensuring that each garment is made to the highest standard. These workshops are often family-run, with skills and know-how passed down through generations. In collaborating with them, we help preserve not only traditional craftsmanship but also the regional economies and cultures in which these skills are rooted.
Tailoring
Our tailoring is made in Italy using a full canvas construction. The canvas is sewn onto the cloth, then pressed with heat and steam by skilled craftsmen to shape the chest and form the lapel roll — a slow, controlled process turning flat cloth into something with shape and movement. Over time, the jacket adapts to the wearer, offering both structure and comfort. The buttonholes are sewn by hand in silk yarn, a detail that takes time but produces a finish that remains neat and tight over years of wear.
Trousers
Each pair of trousers is tailored in an Italian workshop dedicated exclusively to trouser making, using patterns we have refined over many years. Paper patterns are laid on the cloth and marked with chalk before each piece is cut by hand, a method unchanged because it produces the most precise result.
Our trousers are designed with sartorial details that combine elegance and function. These include a curtained waistband to conceal internal seams, a traditional button fly, an after-dinner split for ease of movement, and discreet pick stitching along the fly and pockets for added strength.
Made by Artisans
Behind every Besnard garment is a team of skilled makers — cutters, tailors, and sewers — each a specialist in their craft. Working in small, family-run workshops across Italy, they produce garments in limited quantities, ensuring each piece receives the attention it deserves.
These artisans carry with them a depth of knowledge built over decades. Their work combines precision and care, with techniques refined and preserved over generations. It is this dedication that defines a Besnard garment.
