Red Small Medallion Ancient Madder Tie

Ancient Madder is printed on gum twill, silk boiled to strip its natural gum, dyed, then bathed in a gum solution. That finishing gives the cloth its dry, chalky hand, and it softens with wear. Ours is screen printed by hand in Macclesfield, usually six to eight screens building the design layer by layer.

The ground here is dyed Madder Red rather than the traditional indigo, and the pattern printed over it by dye and discharge. Without the indigo there is no haze, so the motifs come out with a clean edge. This tie carries a small medallion pattern in cream, black and orange.

Made by hand in Italy, this tie features hand-rolled blades and a 3-fold construction with light interlining to ensure a modest knot.
