Made-to-Measure

Holland & Sherry 8 Wale Black Corduroy

Sale price€625

Corduroy is a velvety cloth with ridges running down it. Those ridges are made from extra yarns woven in and then cut open, so the ends stand up as a soft pile. That pile traps air, which is what makes corduroy warm.

This is Holland & Sherry's 8 wale, here in black. Eight wales to the inch is a broad cord, wide enough to read as texture across a room. At 700 grams it is the heaviest corduroy they weave, and that weight is what makes it hang cleanly.

We like corduroy for being informal without being casual. It is a step dressier than chinos or jeans, and it belongs to autumn and winter. The pile softens with wear, which is part of how it ages.

Available as trousers, a sport coat or a suit, all made to measure in Italy.

House Style

Our house style has a full chest, slightly extended shoulders, open quarters, and a generous lapel with a low gorge.

The shoulders are unpadded and the construction is soft, with just enough canvas to shape the jacket. One of its most distinctive features is a hidden dart running from armhole to pocket.

Guided by traditional tailoring, the house style combines classic proportions with a silhouette cut to flatter. It is easy and comfortable to wear.

Full Canvas

Our tailoring is made with a full and floating canvas. We use canvas to shape the chest and lapels, achieving a natural roll from the bottom towards the shoulders. Even with the jacket unbuttoned, the lapels elegantly drape away from the body, accentuating the waistline. Canvas also lets the jacket breathe, allowing it to adapt and conform to the wearer’s body shape the more it is worn.
