That finishing gives the cloth its dry, chalky hand, and it softens with wear. Ours is screen printed by hand in Macclesfield, usually six to eight screens building the design layer by layer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ground is dyed indigo first and the pattern printed over it by dye and discharge, which leaves a soft haze around each motif and a blue cast to the whole design. Because the tie is untipped you can see the indigo on the reverse.
